Talking ‘Bout My Generation Podcast Wins Janno Media Award and Earns Runner-Up Spot at BJTC Awards

Lucy Marshall's innovative podcast Talking ‘Bout My Generation continues to make waves, recently securing the Janno Media Award for Innovation in Sound and achieving runner-up status for Best Podcast at the prestigious BJTC Awards.

The BJTC Awards ceremony, held at Sky on December 12, 2024, celebrated excellence in broadcast journalism, with NTU’s student-led project earning accolades for its creativity and storytelling.

Prior to the BJTC awards, the podcast impressed the judges with its unique concept of exploring generational perspectives on engaging topics. This award includes a £5,000 bursary and the full support of Janno Media’s podcast department which will enable Lucy to transform her pilot episode into a fully-fledged podcast series.

Talking ‘Bout My Generation will feature three generations of women from the same family (Lucy, her Mum and her Nana) engaging in spirited discussions on themes ranging from music and fashion to politics and social media. The podcast promises to be both entertaining and insightful, offering listeners a rare glimpse into how different generations perceive and interpret the world around them.

In her application, Lucy, who has just received a First Class Honours in Broadcast Journalism,  highlighted the significance of capturing these intergenerational conversations and providing a platform for open, unrestricted dialogue. "Freedom of speech is at the core of the podcast - no opinion is invalid, it’s an open space for thoughts to be discussed," she says.

She expressed her excitement at receiving the award, saying how it would significantly impact her early career and provide invaluable industry experience. The bursary will enable Lucy to upgrade her recording equipment and enhance the production quality of her podcast.

Lucy joins previous award recipients Anjy Olosunde and Harry Briggs, and like them, she will benefit from Janno Media’s expertise and technical support.
