Students being presented with award

The project, developed in collaboration with Arcadis, tasked students with reimagining the urban realm of Beaulieu Park train station with a focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and safety. Arcadis provided students with support throughout, offering a detailed project brief, resources, and feedback. The winning team was selected to present their ideas to the design teams at Arcadis, including professionals who worked on the actual project.

The visit began with insightful presentations from NTU graduates James Rawlin and Gursimrat Basran, who shared their expertise on embedding sustainability into design and their career development journeys. Students then toured the office, engaging with representatives from various disciplines, such as civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, BIM modelling, and ecology. The experience provided a holistic view of how these specialisms integrate to deliver large-scale projects.

Students were also awarded certificates to recognise their efforts and vouchers as a token of appreciation. Arcadis commended the students' innovative designs, dedication to sustainability, and enthusiasm during their visit.

Reflecting on the experience, the students thanked the team for the opportunity, noting how much they learned about interdisciplinary collaboration and the practical application of their skills. The visit also inspired many to look forward to future placements to further their development.

This initiative demonstrates NTU’s dedication to bridging academic learning with professional practice, equipping students with invaluable industry insights. The Civil Engineering team continues to foster impactful work-like experiences through their extensive network of industry partners.

NTU would like to thank everyone at Arcadis, particularly James Rawlin, Gursimrat Basran, Joey Clark, and Ivanka Shamaro, for their unwavering support and guidance throughout this project.
