Graduation Reflections at Nottingham Law School: Angelina Vago Ancarola

During my graduation, I had the privilege of delivering the Student Vote of Thanks. It was not a responsibility I took lightly. I wanted every student graduating alongside me to feel that the speech reflected not only my own experience, but something we had all shared. It took me far longer than I would like to admit to write a speech that I felt was worthy of recognising such an incredible group of people whom I have come to think of as my second family.

Looking back, the last three years have been a rollercoaster. There were moments when I had no idea what the next turn would bring. Sometimes, I wasn't even sure where the ground ended and the sky began. Yet through every challenge, one thing remained constant: I was never facing it alone. I was surrounded by people who supported me, encouraged me, and never let me fall.

To everyone who made my experience, and the experience of so many other students, the best it could possibly be, thank you. I don't think those two words will ever fully capture the gratitude I feel, but they are a start.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have found the university that was right for me, and I am both proud and excited to be returning to Nottingham Law School to complete the Barristers Training Course. There is nowhere else I would rather continue my legal journey. Over the last three years, Nottingham Law School has helped me build the foundations for my future, and I know I am returning to an environment that will continue to challenge, support, and inspire me as I take the next step in my career.

For anyone joining NTU, whether as an undergraduate or postgraduate student, my biggest piece of advice is simple: say yes to every opportunity you can. The range of extracurricular activities, work experience, competitions, societies, and events available is extraordinary, and they will shape you just as much as your studies will.

University is the place to learn, to challenge yourself, and, sometimes, to make mistakes. Don't let the fear of failure stop you from discovering what you're capable of. Step outside your comfort zone, embrace the opportunities that come your way, and trust yourself to keep learning. Along the way, you'll find a community of people who genuinely want to see you succeed and who will always be willing to offer support when you need it.

Nottingham Law School offers so much more than an academic qualification. It offers experiences that help you grow in confidence, develop lifelong friendships, and discover the kind of lawyer and person you want to become. You won't just leave with a degree, you'll leave ready for whatever adventure comes next.
