NTU professor awarded prestigious fellowship by the Academy of Social Sciences
A Nottingham Trent University professor has been recognised for his contribution to the social sciences and his work in health and organisational psychology.

Professor Steven Brown is among a cohort of UK academics from across the social sciences to be named a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
The new Fellows have been recognised for their work across a range of areas, including digital democracy, environmental sustainability, global justice, mental health and wellbeing, and social inequalities.
As Professor of Health and Organisational Psychology at Nottingham Business School, Steven’s research explores how people's memories shape their experiences of organisations and their relationships with professionals, with a particular focus on people whose memories may be overlooked or questioned.
He also examines people's experiences of mental health services, exploring how the environments in which care takes place can affect identity, relationships, wellbeing and recovery.
The Fellowship recognises the important role of the social sciences in understanding and addressing some of the complex challenges facing society today.
As well as recognising excellence in research and the professional application of social science, the new Fellows have made substantial contributions beyond academia, including in policy, public service, industry and civil society.
I’m honoured to be elected a Fellow of the Academy. The social sciences have a vital contribution to make to addressing the significant and growing societal challenges we all face. As an interdisciplinary academic, I’m excited about the thinking across disciplines that the Academy promotes and look forward to working with other Fellows to engage wider communities and stakeholders in those conversations.

The Academy's Fellowship comprises 1,750 leading social scientists from academia, the public, private and third sectors. Fellows are elected for their excellence in their fields and their substantial contributions to social science for public benefit. Selection is through an independent peer-review process that recognises excellence and impact.

Their work is expanding knowledge, challenging assumptions and generating insights that are informing and even redefining decision making across government, business, education and civil society. The 74 new Fellows have been elected from 38 UK organisations, including 36 universities, as well as think tanks, research institutes and public research funding bodies. Fellows have also been elected from countries beyond the UK, including Canada, China, Hong Kong, Macau and New Zealand.
