Charmaine Morrell, MSc, MIEMA, CEnv – Head of Sustainability
Charmaine heads up sustainability at NTU, being responsible for developing strategy and its successful implementation, particularly on net zero carbon and works closely with the University Executive Team, external partners, the Students’ Union as well as Academic Schools and Professional Services, to do this. Before joining NTU, Charmaine worked as a sustainability leader in numerous sectors, including construction, infrastructure, manufacturing and consultancy and is a passionate advocate for achieving positive environmental and social outcomes, as an innovative ambassador for sustainability. As a Chartered Environmentalist, Charmaine heads up the Sustainability Team and together, they act as pathfinders for the NTU community to net zero carbon. Contact Charmaine
Rose Playle – Sustainability Consultant, Sustainability in Enterprise
Rose is a skilled sustainability professional with experience of leading environmental projects in the public, private and higher education sectors. She has experience of implementing ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 Environmental and Energy Management Systems and working on a range of projects tackling carbon, energy efficiency, water and waste. Within the Sustainability in Enterprise project Rose works with SMEs throughout Nottinghamshire to drive environmental best practice, realise efficiency savings and advise on sustainable business practices. Robyn Thompson – Sustainability Consultant, Sustainability in Enterprise
Robyn combines a wealth of sustainability knowledge and experience after years of academic study and working with businesses in the East Midland’s to improve resource efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and implement behaviour change campaigns. Specialising in ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, sustainable waste management and carbon-based research projects, Robyn delivers results and drives performance improvements, cost reduction and sustainable business development. Robyn is a highly proactive and determined person, passionate about protecting the environment and embedding sustainability into all areas of business. Contact Robyn
Lucy Yates – Sustainability Projects Coordinator
Lucy joined the team in 2021 after previously working in a Students' Union and a conservation charity to organise events and develop community engagement projects. Her main focus is to increase awareness amongst NTU staff and students about ways to integrate sustainability into their behaviours, create opportunities and projects for the NTU community and stakeholders focusing on sustainability, and to uphold the communications of the Sustainability Team. Peter Manning – Sustainability Projects Coordinator
Peter joined the Sustainability team in March 2022, having previously working as an environmental advisor in the waste management industry. His main focus is working on Net Zero Carbon projects and initiatives in line with NTU's Embracing Sustainability Strategy, which includes a diverse array of topics including energy and waste, construction, procurement, travel and transport. Gillian Moczarski – Sustainability Assistant
Gill joined NTU in 2008 after working as an Environmental Implementation Officer for a Local Authority. She supports the Environmental Manager in the running of NTU’s Environmental Management System. This includes working with the Sustainable Development Team’s partners to ensure the University is meeting its environmental responsibilities and providing sustainability awareness training to staff across NTU. Laura Green – Environmental Assistant
Laura joined the team in 2012 as an NTU Graduate in Health and the Environment. Her main focus is supporting the Projects Officers with events and promoting positive sustainable behaviours. She works on the university Fairtrade accreditation and creates opportunities at the allotment on the Clifton campus for staff and students. Contact Laura
Jemma Maguire – Sustainability Assistant
After graduating from NTU with a MSc in Biodiversity Conservation, Jemma joined the team as a Sustainability Assistant in January 2022. This role includes assisting with the University’s waste management, supporting with the maintenance of the University’s Environmental Management System and providing support on the administration and delivery of Net Zero Carbon projects and initiatives. Paul Hook – Cycle Hire Coordinator
Paul is our resident bike mechanic at the workshop behind the City Students’ Union. He can help with repairs or loan you a bike on Mondays and Thursdays 12 pm - 6 pm. Contact Paul
Tracey Lloyd – Lead Allotment Gardener
Tracey has led our weekly volunteering sessions, educating both staff and students since 2014. Tracey has extensive experience in harvesting fresh organic fruit and vegetables using sustainable and zero waste practices. She has also connected our Clifton campus allotment to the Nottingham Growing Network to support local community wellbeing through improved access to nature and greenspaces. Contact Tracey
