Laura Mayhew-Manchón

Head of Sustainability

Laura is the Head of Sustainability, leading the University’s Sustainability Team and playing a key role in the delivery of NTU’s ‘Embracing Sustainability’ strategy. Laura collaborates closely with colleagues from all Schools and Directorates to provide direction and accountability on the University’s sustainability performance, as well as collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to enhance NTU’s reputation as one of the most sustainable universities in the UK and in the world. Laura is also a member of the NTU Estates Directorate Senior Management Team (SMT). Before joining NTU, Laura carried out a number of environmental specialist roles across facilities management, construction, higher education, local government, and healthcare, resulting in 19 years of experience accrued within private, public, and not-for-profit organisations across the UK and Europe. Charlotte Wood

Sustainability Manager

Charlotte joined NTU in August 2022 as Sustainability Manager, overseeing the programme management of activity to meet NTUs ambitious Net Zero Carbon targets. She works closely with the Net Zero Carbon Workstreams of Travel & Transport, Supply Chain, Partner Accommodation and Energy & Water to help plan, implement and monitor Net Zero initiatives at NTU. She heads up a small team within the Sustainability Team that works on net zero initiatives, including Peter Manning, Hettie Bawden and Paul Hook. Charlotte has a wealth of experience including 10 years working in local government in energy management and carbon reduction, plus more recently held roles as a Climate Resilience Manager and a Sustainability Programme Manager for one of the largest civil service organisations in the UK.  Contact Charlotte

Laura Green

Environmental Manager

Laura joined the team in 2012 as an NTU Graduate in Health and the Environment. Following a number of years working on engagement activities she now focuses on the coordination and implementation of NTU’s Environmental Management System ISO14001. She heads up a small team within the Sustainability Team that works on the Environmental Management System including Jemma Maguire, Gillian Moczarski and Milly Clover. Contact Laura

Hettie Bawden

Sustainability Projects Coordinator

Hettie previously worked at NTSU as Sustainability Officer where she implemented their ISO14001 certification and coordinated their 'Excellent' achievement on the Green Impact metric. She joins the Sustainability Team to support Net Zero Carbon Projects across the university including our Sustainable Labs framework. Contact Hettie

Peter Manning

Sustainability Officer

Peter is a Sustainability Projects Officer and joined NTU in March 2022. A key part of his role is working on Net Zero projects, including calculating and analysing carbon emissions data. He works closely with the Procurement team, providing specialist input into NTU’s tenders, and he also advises on SKA certification. Peter has a MSc in Environmental Assessment & Management, and has previously worked as an environmental advisor in the waste management industry. Contact Peter

Jemma Maguire

Sustainability Coordinator

Jemma is a Sustainability Coordinator and the Team's theme lead for Biodiversity. She is responsible for coordinating the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity on the NTU estate and supports the management and continual improvement of the university's ISO14001 Environmental Management System. Jemma works closely with colleagues in Capital Development, Landscape Services and academic schools to ensure that the wildlife on NTU campuses is protected, this includes acting as NTU's Hedgehog Champion for Hedgehog Friendly Campus and coordinating Great Crested Newt habitat creation at Brackenhurst Campus. Jemma joined the team in January 2022, after graduating with a Masters Degree in Biodiversity Conservation from NTU. Contact Jemma

Gillian Moczarski

Sustainability Assistant

Gill joined NTU in 2008 after working as an Environmental Implementation Officer for a Local Authority.  She supports the Environmental Manager in the running of NTU’s Environmental Management System. Gill works with stakeholders across NTU to ensure that the University is compliant with environmental legislation, and supports them in working to achieve their sustainability objectives and targets. Contact Gill

Milly Clover

Sustainability Assistant

Following several years of study and research in the environmental field, Milly joined the team in July 2024 to help support the Environmental Manager in the running of NTU’s Environmental Management System (EMS). This includes working with the Sustainability Team's partners to ensure that the University is meeting its environmental responsibilities, with a particular emphasis on waste management. Her roles include reducing quantities of waste, delivering training across NTU, and identifying opportunities for innovation within sustainability projects and the EMS. Contact Milly

Lucy Yates

Sustainability Engagement Officer

Lucy joined the team in 2021 after previously working in a Students' Union and a conservation charity developing community engagement projects. Lucy is responsible for upskilling others, raising awareness of and championing sustainability at the university. Her main focus is to enable the NTU community to integrate sustainability into their behaviours, creating opportunities and showcasing best practice. Lucy also works with external stakeholders to uphold partnerships, contributes to university wide benchmarks and upholds the digital communications of the Sustainability Team. Contact Lucy

Paul Hook

Cycle Hire Coordinator

Paul is our resident bike mechanic at the Cycle Hub, located behind the City Students’ Union. Paul oversees the hire and maintenance of over 200 cycles available to staff and students. He can also provide expert advice on cycling around Nottingham, cycle safety, maintenance training and cycle maintenance services. Paul also runs regular ‘Dr Bike’ sessions across NTU Campuses to help encourage both staff and students to cycle. Paul is available at the Cycle Hub on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 pm - 4 pm. Tracey Lloyd

Lead Allotment Gardener

Tracey has led our weekly Wednesday afternoon volunteering sessions, educating both staff and students since 2014. Tracey has extensive experience in growing and harvesting fresh organic fruit and vegetables using sustainable and zero waste practices. She has also connected our Clifton campus allotment to the Nottingham Growing Network to support local community wellbeing through improved access to nature and green spaces. Tracey is available at the Clifton Foodshare Allotment on Wednesday afternoons. Emily Spencer

Senior Sustainability Projects Officer

Emily joined NTU in October 2022, having previously worked as an Environment Officer at another University. After a period within the Sustainability team on Net Zero Carbon projects, she now works within Campus Services to implement Sustainability Initiatives with external partners. Emily focuses on Sustainable Transport initiatives alongside working with accommodation and service providers in line with NTU's Embracing Sustainability Strategy.  Contact Emily

Claire Davies

Sustainable Procurement Project Manager

Claire has worked at NTU for 32 years in various roles, some of which have involved sustainable procurement.  Since 2021 Claire has worked as Sustainable Procurement Manager in the Procurement Team to reduce our supply chain (scope 3) emissions and build sustainable supply chains.  She has worked collaboratively with Charlotte, Peter and Hettie on developing and rolling out the Net Zero Carbon Supplier Tool to NTU’s suppliers and onboarding multiple other universities and their suppliers too. Contact Claire
