Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at NTU
Find out how we are supporting academic and professional services colleagues to enhance their expertise in learning and teaching.
What is Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)?

At NTU, we think of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) as a chance to reflect, develop and share our best practice.
We see SoTL as multifaceted and being enacted at multiple and overlapping levels: individual, institutional, and external. Engagement in SoTL contributes to high-quality teaching and enhancement of student learning opportunities and outcomes.
SoTL begins with reflection on individual teaching practice which can then develop into sharing at department, school, or institutional level. Some colleagues choose to go further and engage in wider developments through collaborating and disseminating across the sector. Others are involved in developing novel educational approaches, adapting, or integrating existing approaches across contexts, and bringing about change.
Individuals engage in a range of activities and outputs such as curriculum development; innovative learning and teaching resources; publications such as journal articles, books, and reports; and a variety of events to disseminate and share innovative practice.
