Primary outreach programme
Explore our primary outreach programme which support pupils to gain early information about higher education, increase literacy and skills development
Working in partnership with schools in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County, our aim is to close the attainment gap and increase participation in higher education amongst Free School Meals (FSM) pupils.
Through in-school and on campus activity, the primary outreach programme introduces the concept of higher education and helps prepare pupils for a successful transition to secondary school.
Our outreach programmes
Classroom provision
Through in-school, classroom based activities, pupils in year 5 and 6 will be introduced to the idea of university. They will explore campus life, understand key university vocabulary, debunk myths about higher education and engage with NTU students. Outreach is most effective when sustained and progressive, so for maximum impact, we aim to work with your pupils year on year.
Primary Learning Advocates
Primary Learning Advocates support attainment raising in primary schools by assisting with small group learning or providing 1:1 support to targeted pupils who are falling behind in their expected level for literacy. Our students follow the guidance of teachers in the classroom and they inspire, motivate and support pupils in their learning.
Year 6 campus visit
A year 6 campus visit will bring university to life and support your pupils in making a smooth transition into secondary school.
Sports programmes
NTU Sport works with schools to develop sporting provision to meet the specific needs of your pupils. NTU Sports volunteers help to increase self-esteem, communication, teamwork and confidence amongst pupils.
