Announced in October 2024, the partnership aims to strengthen global collaboration in esports education. As part of this initiative, NTU was represented at the conference by Gin Rai, who co-curated the event alongside Professor Jonghyun Wi of Chung Ang University and Professor Eunkyoung Choi of Hanshin University. The event brought together a distinguished panel of industry experts, researchers, and academics from within esports, sports, gaming, broadcast technologies, and various universities around the world, including Columbia, China, and Japan.
BSc Esports Production students Tom Edwards and Filip Krause took the stage on the second day of the conference, hosted at Chung Ang University. Their participation was part of a new initiated student showcase, featuring undergraduate and postgraduate researchers in the Esports Convergence programme. Tom was recognised for his outstanding work and awarded the Best Research Project for his study titled A Study on Unique Engineering Challenges within Grassroots and Professional Esports Broadcast Production.
During the visit, Gin met with Hanshin University President Kang Sung-young to discuss the future of esports education in Korea and explore opportunities for further collaboration. Gin also had the chance to meet Kim Gwan-woo, the 2024 Asian Games Street Fighter V gold medalist, to gain insights into his experiences as a professional esports competitor and champion in the global fighting game scene.
As NTU looks ahead to 2025, the university continues to expand its global engagement in esports, fostering new partnerships and enhancing opportunities for students to gain real-world experience in this fast-growing industry.
