Student Finance Award

Release of Maintenance Money

I am a student in receipt of the Postgraduate Loan (PG Loan) but my enrolment status on the student portal is still showing as ‘in progress’

If you are receiving a postgraduate loan from the Student Loans Company, it will not be paid to the University to cover fees.  You will therefore need to set up a payment arrangement for your tuition fees before your postgraduate loan can be paid to you.  (Tuition fee payment dates for postgraduates are scheduled to allow students  time to receive their postgraduate loan prior to paying fees).

I am Undergraduate student receiving a student loan but my enrolment status on the student portal is still showing as ‘in progress’

If you applied for student finance less than 6 weeks ago, you do not need to take any immediate action, but be aware that it will normally take your national Student Finance Service up to 6 weeks to assess your application for a Tuition Fee Loan (and Maintenance Loan if applicable) and we would urge you to log into your online student finance account and keep checking for updates.  While you will not be asked to pay anything towards your fees, you will need to make sure you bring some money with you to cover your living costs until your maintenance loan is paid.

Have you activated your student card. The University is unable to confirm to the Student Loans Company that you are registered and attending NTU until you are fully enrolled and activated your student card. This is required to release your student finance and any maintenance loan you are expecting.

To activate your card there are two steps to complete:

I am taking out the maximum student loan for my fees, do I still need to arrange to pay?

If you are an Undergraduate student Your loan for the fees is paid directly to the University so you do not need to arrange to pay yourself

If you are receiving a postgraduate loan from the Student Loans Company, it will not be paid to the University to cover fees.  You will therefore need to set up a payment arrangement for your tuition fees before your postgraduate loan can be paid to you.  (Tuition fee payment dates for postgraduates are scheduled to allow students time to receive their postgraduate loan prior to paying fees)

I am coming to NTU via Clearing, what should I do about my student finance?

Any students who have been through Clearing after getting exam results still need to make sure that their student finance is sorted. New guidance for any students in England going through Clearing is available on the Student Finance website.

If you've already applied for student finance but your course, university or college has changed through Clearing, you'll need to let Student Finance England know as it could affect what you're entitled to. See this quick video on how to change your application.

Students can make changes to their course, college or university details online. To make a change log into your Student Finance online account then Your Account > Change your application > University/college course.

Once your loan is confirmed, don’t forget to complete and submit your online declaration from your funding body (or sign and return the paper version, if applicable) or you won’t receive any payments at the start of term!
