Aims

The overall aim of Project Adapted is to provide a focal point in Higher Education for research, course development and consultancy related to providing practical support for Adapted Physical Activities.

Community perspective

We seek to support and supplement the efforts being made by the range of educational, recreational, sporting, and other agencies to be more inclusive in their programmes by networking with them.

Outcome

To enable individuals of all ages with varying degrees of challenges (which prevent them from being included in rewarding physical educational or leisure activities) to be included with:

  • satisfaction
  • equity
  • dignity.

Theme

  • To facilitate the concept of 'adaptation' in activities, games and sports.
  • Focus on the fundamental technical barrier, which so many practitioners find challenging when conducting ‘inclusive initiatives’.
  • Enable the practitioner to grasp as a basic skill the concept of the classification process (matching abilities) for different participants with different movement abilities.
