More about Harriet

Why did you choose to study your course at Brackenhurst?

I have always had an interest in agriculture from a young age due to growing up on a beef farm, Brackenhurst was a place for me to further my knowledge to learn new skills and meet new people.

Tell us more about your course. What do you enjoy studying the most?

In this course you get a large amount of practical experience, for me personally, I am thoroughly enjoying learning of nutrition and seeing how the diet changes the weight increase in young heifers.

What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?

The facilities are brilliant. The use of different tractors, and handling systems on the farm for education purposes. I mostly use the libraries for the completion of assignments and to catch up on any college work I may have missed.

What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?

I am a student rep for year one Agric so some of my time is filled by attending meetings and discussions on any problems they may be. The rest of my time I usually am with the rest of my year group or the second years an advantage of this college is that both year groups are close so they are always willing to help with any issue you may have that they may have previously had.

Have you had any support from other departments? How was your experience accessing these/ was the service helpful?

I have received a little bit of help from student support who was very friendly and welcoming.

What is your top tip for someone considering studying at Brackenhurst Campus?

My tip would be always have waterproof shoes and keep a change of clothes in your locker as you may have the opportunity to partake in an extra practical session and the weather may not always be the most enjoyable.

Have you been involved in any placements, work experience or volunteering as part of your course? If so, what did you do and what did you achieve?

For this course you are required to do 150 hours of work experience at a place of your choice I have chosen to do mine at abattoir as this will help me further down the line as this is the line of work I would like to go down.

Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?

Purely for the experience of people who are interested in similar things to you and the opportunities that are open to you e.g showing cattle, taking part in machinery show.

What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to achieve that goal?

I plan on furthering my education at university to study straight agriculture.
