It didn’t take long to settle in; with a small class, everyone soon became friends.
More about Amelia
I’m studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture. The course gives us insight into all aspects of farming including hands-on activities, field walks, lambing, showing cows, drilling crops and then learning about it in classrooms. The modules I enjoyed the most were sheep work on the farm and learning it in the classroom and learning about crops and how to grow and select them.
I completed my placement on a farm in Yorkshire managed by 2016 arable farmer of the year Guy Shelby. I drove tractors and learnt about his scheme to encourage wildlife on the farm.
The course tutors are all extremely helpful and friendly. Lessons are interesting and engaging. I have also been to the employability team to sort work experience.
I chose Brackenhurst because of the location; it’s close to home, so I can drive in every day and the smaller class size and lovely campus. Plus the great links the course has to farms in the area.
It is fun being a student here and there is a lot to do here, so many people to help you. Every course is friendly so you get to see and make friends with lots of people.
I intend to take a year out to work in a farm shop and decide what else I’d like to do. I’m interested in a career with sheep or crops.
