More about Natasha

Why did you choose to study this course at Brackenhurst?

After visiting different colleges around the country, I liked the atmosphere and friendliness of the tutors and the campus as a whole. The course content was very thorough and delivered in a way that inspired me. For me, the course contained a good mix of practical and theory modules.

Tell us a little bit more about your course - are there any specific elements that you enjoy the most?

My favourite aspect of the course is the riding element. Having the opportunity to ride a variety of horses at differing levels and temperaments has developed my skills across various disciplines. Additionally, this has helped to develop my career as a competition rider because I have been able to transfer the knowledge to my own horse at home.

Tell us a little bit more about how you came to Brackenhurst.

Whilst studying for my GCSEs I realised I didn’t want to stay on at sixth form to take my A-levels. My passion has always been horse related but I wanted to take a course that was viewed to be equivalent to A-level standard.

How did you find your course tutors?

The tutors on the course are very experienced and knowledgeable across all areas. From day one they were determined to make the course enjoyable. They are well respected within the industry and have connections that they are happy to share to give you the best possible chance within the industry. The yard technicians are always happy to help and provide you with the knowledge you need to start off your career.

Have you had any support from other departments?

Employability helped me to find my placements for my second year. They were able to provide me with a list of options best suited to me and, as a result, I have been employed by one of my placement providers.

What do you think of the Brackenhurst Campus and the facilities here?

The campus is well laid out, smart, and has great facilities. The Equestrian Centre has two amazing arenas which we use on a daily basis along with a research arena that we use in our practical sessions for our groundwork practicals. Additionally, there is high-tech equipment such as the mechanical horse that enables you to improve your riding position as well as equipment to improve rider fitness.

What is the most valuable thing you have learnt from your course so far?

The most valuable thing has been the transition into employment. I feel the course has prepared me well for working in the industry by teaching key skills and improving on time management. This has been developed through duties and work experience and, as a result, I have been able to adapt easily to the working environment.

Describe your time at NTU in three words

Enjoyable, inspiring, and fulfilling.

What are your ambitions for the future or plans following this course?

My plan is to develop my knowledge deeper within the various areas of the equine industry so that it enables me to have a range of career options. After the course, I hope to stay at NTU to study either of the equine courses as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
