More about Toby

Why did you choose to study your course at Brackenhurst?

I chose to study at Brackenhurst because of my love and fascination for agriculture and everything involved with it but one of my main selling points was the facilities they had to offer there, the farm and workshop are amazing.

Tell us more about your course. What do you enjoy studying the most?

My favourite subject to study at Brack is machinery. As you get hands on experience with all the different machines involved in farming and you get to take them apart and fix them and figure out how they work and learn what benefits they have for farming.

What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?

The facilities at Brackenhurst are of a very high quality but my favourite facility I would have to say is the ethos room it’s the agriculture personal room specifically for the course. It has everything you could possibly need; kettle, sofa, projector but most importantly a microwave.

What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?

During my spare time at college, my course tends to go on the cricket pitch and play sports, we also like to go to Brack bar and play pool.

What is your top tip for someone considering studying at Brackenhurst Campus?

I would suggest get a high-vis coat for practicals because if you're standing around in the winter you get cold very quickly.

Have you been involved in any placements, work experience or volunteering as part of your course? If so, what did you do and what did you achieve?

My work placement I worked at a dairy farm just down the road from Brackenhurst. I was milking cows and looking after calves as well as grass management. I learned a lot from that job that will stay with me forever I learned skills I would never thought I would have learned.

Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?

I would recommend my course not just because of the facilities and the campus, but also because the lecturers they help make the courses and without them it would not be the same.

What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to achieve that goal?

I am hoping to go to university to study agriculture business and then hopefully travel to another country such as New Zealand or America. This course has helped prepare me for university.

Any additional comments?

It’s important to open to your course at the beginning because you can make friends that will last a lifetime
