“I love that Nottingham Trent University is located in the city centre of Nottingham - a wonderful city that feels like home. The fact that NTU is a modern university with the latest teaching practices really appealed to me.”

“Due to the nature of the course, we do lots of group research projects and presentations which has hugely improved my teamwork skills and confidence.”

Can you tell us a little bit about the skills you’ve developed whilst on placement at G.H.Hurt & Son?
“It was great to put the knowledge that I had learnt on my course into practice. During my placement, I was lucky enough to experience a global social media storm that put G.H.Hurt & Son in the media spotlight – this was the result of one of their baby shawls being used to wrap Prince Louis when he was shown to the world.

“It was amazing to see how one event could have such a huge and positive impact on a small, family run company in all aspects - orders, social media, and press!

“I have be involved in a variety of projects from running social media campaigns, paid social media advertising, B2B marketing including creating trade brochures / look books on InDesign, influencer marketing and even helping with photography projects. The whole experience has given me a deeper and more holistic understanding of marketing and branding.”

“Nottingham is a culturally diverse city that embraces art and creativity. This makes studying and living in Nottingham lovely as it is full of like-minded people.”

Why would you recommend your course to someone interested in pursuing a career in marketing and branding?
“The course strikes the perfect balance between marketing theory and creativity. When working on live projects with brands, this has enabled me to bring my marketing ideas / proposals to life by visually communicating them on Photoshop and InDesign. Working on live projects with global brands such as Muller, Boots, CYO and Sleek has given me a real insight into the industry. I would highly recommend completing the ten week placement to future student – for me, it has confirmed that I am in the right industry and I’m now even more excited for the future.”

What are your ambitions for the future?
“To work for a design-orientated company that is constantly innovating and pushing its creativity. I would like to explore different roles within the world of marketing and gain lots of experience within this field. I’m excited to see where I end up!”
