More about Jessa

What made you choose to study MA Fashion Communications at NTU?
“Prior to studying at NTU I had been in fashion buying for a few years and knew I had a passion for fashion, PR and marketing. However, after having no luck when applying for marketing roles I knew I needed to become more employable in this area and decided to undertake further studies in fashion marketing and communications. I found NTU offered the perfect course for me, it was exactly what I was after and the location of the university allowed me to stay at home during studies.”

What do you enjoy most about your course?

“I enjoy the opportunities that we’re given to get involved in different projects, it’s very exciting. I try to get involved in as many things as possible to help develop my professional portfolio. The prospects of where the MA could take me upon completion is extremely motivating.”

Has the course included and live projects with industry?
“The course offers both live projects and events with industry. We have a live project with some high street brands coming up, and I attended an event held by the British Fashion Council around employability in the fashion industry – I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to attend this event if I was not invited by our course leader, and it proved to be a really insightful day!”

What is the most valuable thing you have learnt from your course?
“The most valuable thing I have learnt through my course is that organising your time is key. As I am involved in multiple projects, it is crucial that I still organise my time for my main course work. Additionally, I try to ensure I have a healthy work life balance. It is important you have time away from your studies, as when you revisit the work you’ve done after a break you see it from a refreshed perspective.”

How do you find the facilities at NTU?
“The NTU School of Art & Design is such an inspiring space. The facilities are fantastic, and for someone who considers themselves as creative and business like – everyone’s needs are catered for. Our course has one dedicated room, but there are plenty of areas within the University that you can hideaway and work, and the postgraduate area of the library is great.”

What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
“I have always lived near Nottingham so have visited the city often. However, spending more time in the city due to studies has meant I have been able to explore and find new places that I had no idea existed. It’s a really vibrant city with loads going on, its fab!”

Would you recommend your course to others?

“I would recommend this course to others as it really allows you to focus on your passion within the fashion industry. This course has reiterated just how much I want to make a successful career within the fashion industry and is motivating me to follow my dream.”

What are your ambition for the future?

“In the future I would love to become a reputable figure, at the top of my game within fashion PR and marketing field. I would love to travel around within my roles also.”
