More about Darren
Darren works for ITV Television in the UK as a Senior Acquisitions Manager: Films & Kids. Growing up in Ghana, he was always fascinated by the film and television industry.
Encouraged by his Grandma to focus on learning, Darren was instilled with the importance of ‘education, education, education’. Having grown up on a diet of British television shows (which had been sent to his family from relatives living in the UK), Darren’s earliest experiences included negotiating with his local cinema to have these shown before the main movie feature. His negotiations proved highly successful.
It was during this time that Darren found his interest in, and passion for, working in the film and television industry.
As an undergraduate at NTU, Darren focused on gaining work experience. He would go on to secure roles working as a runner for the ITV television show Dickenson’s Real Deal, and also for the BBC's Radio 1 Extra. Thanks to his extensive knowledge of film, Darren successfully applied to the television company Channel 5, where he was hired as a scheduler.
Darren’s current role sees him pre-buying and commissioning new children’s programmes for ITV Television, alongside the acquisition of films and series for ITV's portfolio of Channels – including ITVX.
Becoming a member of NTU’s Alumni and Industry Fellowship Programme in 2023, Darren volunteers his time and expertise to inspire the next generation of media professionals.
