More about Roshani

Why NTU?

Why did you choose to study a postgraduate degree in Education?

"Having studied social sciences at undergraduate level and worked in the education sector, I chose a postgraduate degree in Education to enhance my specialist knowledge and skills in education policy, curriculum development and research skills.

Most of all, studying towards a postgraduate degree has provided me with the opportunity to be a part of a team of academic lecturers and a professional peer group to learn from by sharing knowledge and practical experiences."

Why did you choose to study the MA Education course at NTU?

"The MA in Education program at NTU develops the understanding of theories, policies, curriculum development and research skills. The program is designed to broaden students' understanding through the application of theoretical knowledge in wider contexts.

Furthermore, students gain the knowledge and skills for independent curriculum development and education research to be used in their chosen area.

The MA in Education provides wider opportunities to develop professional skills that are required to become an autonomous and confident practitioner."

What’s your experience been like of your course so far?

"The course consists of seminars and lectures with peer discussion, reflection, critical thinking, and debates. Every member is given a chance to actively participate in discussions. Throughout the course, I have become more confident in sharing my views and experience within the group.

At the beginning of the course, I found it difficult to read journals, explore theories, policies, and contemporary debates. However, I was able to get further support from the library team which really helped.

Studying has allowed me to broaden my intellectual skills and autonomy to understand complex topics and solve problems by applying my knowledge and expertise."

What does Social Sciences mean to you?

"My view of social sciences is understanding the social phenomenon that causes changes in society. My intention in studying social science is to be a voice against social inequality, particularly in education."

The Next Steps

What’s next for you after NTU?

"I intend to work as a Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) teacher - supporting students with learning disabilities to provide them with the opportunity to learn and live up to their potential in society."

How is NTU helping you to achieve your career goals?

"The MA in Education has provided me with the opportunity to gain a broader knowledge in my area of interest. The application of theory, policy and research inquiry included in each module has given me a wider understanding of how to achieve my career objectives.

I have become more resilient, determined and dedicated through the program. Therefore, I am confident that NTU has developed my professional knowledge and skills needed for my future career."

As an International Student

Why did you want to study in the UK?

"The United Kingdom has a wide range of world-ranking universities across the country with affordable tuition fees. UK-based qualifications are well recognised in my home country for employability and career progression.

I also chose to study here because of the diverse immigrant population, beautiful sceneries and historical places, as well as the British Values and lovely people."

What advice would you give to help new international students get settled in at university?

"It's also really important to make plans before arrival so that your accommodation and university payments/instalments are all organised.

Once here, make the most of opportunities to network with peers, through the various clubs, and societies. There is also plenty of support available such as the Student Support Team, the library, and the global lounge.

Finally, maintain a healthy work-life balance and be prepared to push the boundaries to complete your course."
