Cathy is a PhD student in the School of Social Sciences undertaking a thesis entitled, Factors affecting the benefit received from visual information when listening to degraded speech in background noise.

The project will also explore whether cognitive and psychological factors affect the ability to benefit from visual speech information in noisy situations. The work will ultimately extend to cochlear implant users. The work will also examine the potential of training approaches for use by adult users of cochlear implants, and for hearing impaired populations in general.
