More about Danielle
Why did you choose to study a postgraduate degree?
"My interest in psychology began in secondary school and was solidified during my undergraduate degree. In my final year, I developed a particular passion for forensic psychology while working on my research project. That experience confirmed that this was the area I wanted to pursue for a future career and since a postgraduate degree is essential to becoming a Forensic Psychologist, continuing my studies felt like the natural and necessary progression."
Why did you choose your course at NTU?
"I completed my undergraduate Psychology degree at NTU and loved every minute of it. I’ve always felt genuinely supported by the university, especially by the staff within the psychology department. That experience made it an easy decision to continue my studies here in an environment that nurtures your individual development and challenges you to grow."
What’s your experience been like of your course so far? Can you pick out any highlights?
"My experience on this course was engaging and rewarding from start to finish. One of my key highlights was the input from professionals currently working in the field as hearing directly from experienced practitioners helped bridge the gap between theory and practice. In the first term we focused on building a strong theoretical foundation and in the second term we had the opportunity to apply that knowledge through practical tasks and assessments. I’ve also particularly enjoyed the experiential learning elements, which have helped develop my confidence and skills in a safe and supportive environment."
Have you been involved in any projects or extra-curricular activities that have supplemented your studies run through NTU?
"Alongside three other students, I was a course rep which was a great way to get involved in the wider course community, where we facilitated communication between students and staff. What stood out was how responsive the staff were; our feedback was consistently taken on board and acted upon. It was nice to play an active role in my learning experience."
What does Social Sciences mean to you?
"To me, Social Sciences is about appreciating the individuality and complexity of people and using that to create meaningful, positive change in their lives. I’ve always been fascinated by human diversity and believe that differences should be celebrated not ignored. Throughout my studies, I’ve realised just how essential research is in practitioner roles; it’s not confined to academic journals but actively informs how services are designed, delivered, and evaluated to ensure they genuinely meet people’s needs."
What do you think of the support available from tutors and staff at NTU?
"The support from staff at NTU has been consistently attentive and genuine. They create an environment where you feel valued and motivated to succeed. I appreciate how approachable they are, fostering a positive space where learning and personal growth are actively supported. It’s clear they are invested in seeing you succeed both academically and personally."
What’s next for you after NTU?
"I’m currently focused on gaining valuable experience in the forensic psychology field, with the goal of securing an Assistant Psychologist position within the next few years. I have also grown to love research, so, who knows, a PhD could definitely be on the cards further down the line (first year me would be shocked!)."
How is NTU helping you to achieve your career goals?
"NTU has equipped me with a wide range of transferable skills that are essential in any professional setting, for example, the course has developed my critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Through academic assignments, group work, and engagement with professionals, I’m learning how to apply theory to real-world situations. This approach ensures I’m well prepared for the challenges of the forensic psychology field and beyond."
