Alexander Jansons Bursary
Thanks to the generosity of Alumni, Andy Jansons, we are pleased to have established the Alexander Jansons Bursary in memory of his son. This Bursary will support a talented student who needs help with meeting the costs of studying at university. This bursary is for applicants who have received an offer to study on one of the below eligible courses for September 2022 and is worth up to £20,000. Applications for September 2022 entry have now closed. We will update the application details for 2023 entry in the new year.
- BSc Property Development and Planning (FT/SW)
- BSc Building Surveying (FT/SW)
- BSc Property Finance and Investment (FT/SW)
- BSc Real Estate (FT/SW)
- BSc Property Development and Planning (FT/SW)
The Bursary is worth up to £20,000, paid in termly instalments for the duration of study (including placement year, where applicable).
This scholarship scheme is competitive, and we award scholarships to the applicants who most closely meet or exceed the criteria for the award. The scholarship decision is made by an awarding committee and all decisions of that awarding committee are final.
To be eligible to apply applicants must:
- have an offer of a place on one of the courses listed above for September 2022 entry
- have United Kingdom as country of nationality recorded on the course application
- be classed as a Home student for tuition fee purposes
- have a household income of less than £25,000 per annum*.
* Please note that we rely on information provided by Student Finance England to assess household income. For your scholarship application to be considered, please ensure you have registered with Student Finance England and provided all income assessed evidence, a minimum of 6 weeks before the scholarship deadline.
Applications received after 16:00 GMT (4pm) on the day of the deadline will not be considered.

1. To be eligible to apply for the Alexander Jansons Bursary, applicants must:
- have been offered a place on BSc Property Development and Planning - K420/K491, or BSc (Hons) Building Surveying - K231/K230, or BSc (Hons) Property Finance and Investment - N3N5/NN23, or BSc (Hons) Real Estate - N232/N234, or BSc (Hons) Property Development and Planning - K420/K491
- have a household income of under £25,000 per annum*
- be classed as a Home student for tuition fee purposes, and
- have United Kingdom as country of nationality recorded on the course application.
*Please note that we rely on information provided by Student Finance England to assess household income. For your scholarship application to be considered, please ensure you have registered with Student Finance England and provided all income assessed evidence, a minimum of 6 weeks before the scholarship deadline.
2. Please do not send your scholarship application before or with your application to study at NTU. You must have received an offer of a place on an eligible course and been allocated an NTU ID number before submitting your scholarship application.

4. Students who receive sponsorship (i.e., some or all of your tuition fees are being paid for) from their employers, government or a funding body are not eligible to apply for this scholarship award.
5. Applicants may only apply for this scholarship once per academic year per offer. The offer of a place must be on an eligible course.
6. Applicants are only eligible to apply for a scholarship if they are due to enrol on the first year of a course in September 2022.
7. Applicants must be a UK national student starting a new undergraduate course. NTU cannot consider applications from students who are currently studying at NTU unless progressing onto a new undergraduate course.
8. Applications received after 16:00 GMT (4pm) on the deadline date will not be considered.
9. This application form is for eligible undergraduate courses only. Please do not use this form to apply for postgraduate scholarships or research funding.
10. If you have been made an offer of a place to study on an eligible three-year full-time or four-year sandwich course, one scholarship of £20,000 is available.
11. The scholarship will be awarded as a cash bursary, which will be paid in termly instalments for the duration of your study. The first instalment will be made by the end of October 2022.
12. The scholarship is not transferable and will not be awarded if you choose to defer your entry to a different start date, or if you choose to transfer to a different course at NTU. Students must re-apply for the scholarship should it still be available.
13. Changes to course route (FT/PT/SW) on the same course do not impact the scholarship awarded
14. Applicants will be informed whether they have (or have not) been awarded a scholarship (and of the value of the scholarship award they have been awarded) within four weeks of the application deadline date.
15. The scholarship will be awarded when an applicant accepts their scholarship offer, accepts and meets the conditions of their course offer, and is eligible to enrol on the course. If you do not formally accept the scholarship within the deadline when requested, then NTU reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship and award it to another candidate.
16. Scholarships are competitive, and selection is based on the information provided on the scholarship application form. It is, therefore, of great importance that you give your scholarship statements careful thought and preparation, and that you refer to the criteria provided on the application form.
17. If your scholarship application is successful, we may ask you to become a student ambassador, or appear in online and / or printed marketing materials for NTU, such as the Alumni Magazine. For example, providing a student profile, quote, case study and photograph which may be used to promote NTU and NTU’s scholarship schemes and courses. Your name and course will be printed in the annual Donor Report. If you do not wish for us to use your data in this manner, please notify us as soon as possible by emailing NTU.scholarships@ntu.ac.uk.
18. As a recipient of a donor-funded scholarship, you are expected to be involved in the following activities to assist the University in thanking donors for their donation and to demonstrate the impact that donor-funded awards have on students and NTU:
- Write a thank you letter to your donor which introduces yourself (providing your name and subject of study);
- Write an end of year report which will be shared with your donor to explain the impact that the scholarship has had on your studies and your university life – within the report you will be expected to provide your name and subject of study;
- Attend an introduction event during your studies at NTU, where you will:
- Meet other scholarship winners and members of NTU staff;
- Get advice on how to write your thank you letter and end of year report.
- Attend other University events, from time to time, to meet and thank donors.
19. In the event that a student who has been awarded a scholarship fails to complete an eligible course or chooses to retake the course or undertake another eligible course, then the scholarship will not be applied again, regardless of the reason for doing so. Students may re-apply for the scholarship should it still be on offer
20. In the event that a student who has been awarded a scholarship withdraws from the course or their studies are terminated (by the student or by NTU), they will not be eligible to receive further instalments.
21. If a student suspends their studies, they will not be eligible to receive further instalments. Following a period of suspension and upon resumption of studies, NTU may at its discretion, review, and where appropriate reinstate, a student’s entitlement to the scholarship or bursary.
22. If a student is required to repeat an academic year of study (either in full or in part), the scholarship will be suspended during the repeat year of study and no payments will be made.
23. Students are obliged to inform NTU immediately of any change in their circumstances, which may affect their entitlement to receive the scholarship. In the event of failure by a student to notify NTU promptly of any such changes, NTU will be entitled to recover any payments made or adjust (as appropriate) the scholarship amount.
24. If a student makes a false or materially incorrect declaration that resulted in NTU awarding them a scholarship/bursary, then the scholarship will be cancelled, and no further payments will be made. Depending on circumstance, NTU may attempt to recover some or all of any payments already made.
25. If NTU makes a payment which was not expected (i.e., was not in the scholarship payment schedule that they were given at the start of the academic year), the student must let NTU know as soon as they are aware that this has happened. NTU will be entitled to recover any payments made in error.
26. NTU’s decision in all matters relating to the scholarship is final.
