The Betts Experiential Learning Fund

Applications received after 4 pm on the day of the deadline will be considered in the next application window.

To be eligible to apply for this strand of funding applicants must:

• Be enrolled on an ADBE course for the 2025/26 and/or 2026/27 academic year.
• Applications can only be received via the dedicated link. Please do not submit your application directly to anyone within the School.
• Students may apply to this fund multiple times per academic year, but only once per activity.
• Applicants will be informed whether they have, or have not, been awarded funding (and the value of the award) within four weeks of the application deadline date.
• Awards are competitive and selection is based on the information provided on the application form. It is, therefore, of great importance that you give your statements careful thought and preparation, and that you refer closely to the questions being asked.
• Applicants are required to manage any administration associated with participation in their funded activity. For international opportunities this includes ensuring a visa is secured (if required), medical advice is sought regarding required vaccinations and adequate travel insurance is purchased. These items are not funded by the Betts Experiential Learning Fund.
• Applicants wishing to pursue an activity based overseas must have a valid passport with at least 6 months validity left on the intended date of departure. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure this is in place and costs associated with renewing/replacing a passport are not covered by the Fund.
• If your application is successful as a recipient, you are expected to be involved in the following activities to assist the University in thanking the donor for their support and to demonstrate the impact their generosity has made to students:
  • Write a testimonial introducing yourself, your course and thanking the donor for their funds. You will be expected to outline your experience attending the activity you received funding for, including the knowledge/skills gained and how you anticipate this benefitting you moving forward. This piece should be c.500 words in length and where possible include photographs taken during the activity.
  • From time to time, you may be invited to attend University events to meet and thank the donor.
• You will receive information and advice about completing the above, including the deadline by which you will need to do so. Please note that failure to provide the requested information and/or engage in these activities may result in a delay to your payment.

• By accepting the terms of this award, the recipient consents to feedback from academic supervisors and tutors, and where appropriate, their grades or final degree classification being shared with the donor.

• Should a student withdraw from participation in an activity they may be asked to return the money paid to them. Withdrawals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

• Students are obliged to inform NTU immediately of any changes to their circumstances, which may affect their entitlement to receive the award. In the event of failure by a student to notify NTU promptly you may be asked to return any funding paid to you.

• If a student makes a false or materially incorrect declaration that results in NTU awarding funding, then this will be cancelled.

• NTU’s decision in all matters relating to the Fund is final.
