British Olympic Association (BOA) Approved Environmental Chamber
We use the chamber to help Olympic athletes to acclimatise with extreme competition environments. Students can use it to simulate climates found anywhere in the world, from Everest to Egypt.
We provide a Crime Scene Training Facility for our forensic students. It's a typical residential property on-campus with rooms that are set-up to replicate a range of realistic crime scenes. You could be investigating a burglary or an assault, or you could be searching for illegal substances. If that's not enough, we also have a ballistics laboratory and document examination laboratory.
Our laboratories in the Rosalind Franklin building are considered to be some of the best teaching and research laboratories in the UK so it is no wonder that our students get the practical experience that employers and researchers are looking for. Our laboratories offer pioneering learning solutions for Bioscience, Chemistry and Forensic science.
Students at the School of Art & Design benefit from outstanding studio and workshop facilities and industry-standard equipment such as resin and mould-making workshops in the Bonington building.
Bonington building's specialist art shop is based at our City site. It's run by experienced University staff and stocks a wide variety of arts and crafts materials.

All hardware and software is upgraded on a regular basis so you're always using the very latest technology.
Based at Clifton campus, our Trent Astronomical Observatory has an impressive 5 m diameter revolving dome structure housing the 20 ft modified Newtonian and a 14 ft Meade LX200 telescope, specifically for astronomical observations. The dome can also be transformed into a planetarium.
Recognised by the International Astronomical Union (observatory code: J06) our observatory is capable of capturing satellites orbiting the earth, moon, sun, planets and other stars in our galaxy, other galaxies and even extra solar planets.
You'll benefit from our high-quality engineering laboratories, extensive modern studios and workshop facilities, and full IT and CAD suites. Specialised equipment includes rapid prototyping modellers. These machines quickly create a 3D object from a virtual computer model using a highly advanced laser process and a waterjet cutter: the latest generation precision technology capable of up to 150mm in almost any sold material such as glass, steel, granite, marble, aluminium and rubber. You will have access to a CNC (computer-numerical control) router and a brand new laser cutter.
Our Brackenhurst campus has been delivering high standards of horticultural education since 1955. You will enjoy a friendly study environment with excellent specialist facilities set in 200 hectares of parkland. New facilities include teaching, laboratory, design and CAD studios, state-of-the-art glasshouses, covered practical areas, and a historic walled garden.
The Equestrian Centre is our British Horse Society (BHS) approved training and livery establishment. we also hold a full local authority riding school licence. Brackenhurst's Equestrian Centre offers extensive and unique facilities including international size indoor and outdoor riding arenas, a horse walker, round pen, crew yards and more.
