Nottingham Civic Exchange Projects

Nottingham Civic Exchange themes draw together the expertise, skills and knowledge of our team and our colleagues to help make a positive difference. Our themes draw together one-off projects and longer term programmes of work knitting together NTU and partners desire to understand and improve our world by being the meeting point of academic research and skill with policy and public collaboration. These themes have been set to help you explore and understand our work. If you want to know more about each theme follow the links below and do reach out to discuss how NCE and our colleagues can work with you to make a difference.

Culture and communities

Projects and programmes within this theme focus on work done with and in communities with a focus on the cultural development of people and places. This work is often built from expertise within our Social Work, Care and Community Department but does reach across to others and indeed out beyond the School of Social Science.

Insecurity and exploitation

Since our inception NCE has explored work relating to insecurity and exploitation. Working with partners and colleagues across NTU we have published research and policy reports on the impact of insecurity and the way exploitation affects different individuals and groups.

Local and regional civic engagement

The local and regional political choices facing our area play a key role in the work that we do and NCE engages on a number of different levels within the School and across NTU to both facilitate and feed-in work to this space.

Policy learning and collaboration

Underpinning all our work is a desire to make a difference. To do this we seek to understand and test ways to engage and collaborate with policy and decision makers wherever the expertise of NCE and the School of Social Science leads us. Understanding where and how to do this improves our ability to facilitate positive change.

Supporting resilient futures

Following the secondment to the C19 National Foresight Group, NCE has begun to work with colleagues to understand how we need to develop and build more resilient futures with critical occupations and systems.

Working with students

We recognise that engaging with real-world challenges and topics enriches learning and provides concrete experiences for our students.
