Secondary outreach programme

Explore our secondary programme which reinforces key higher education messages, challenges misconceptions, and supports pupils to develop their skills and future goals

Working in partnership with schools in Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County, our aim is to close the attainment gap and increase participation in higher education amongst Free School Meals (FSM) pupils.

Through in-school and on campus activity, the secondary programme reinforces key higher education messages, challenges misconceptions and supports pupils to develop their skills and future goals.

Our programmes

Classroom provision

Through school-based workshops and assemblies, pupils in Years 7 - 11 will learn about university, including the journey from secondary school to higher education, skills for success and post-16 options. Assemblies are available for all year groups followed by a workshop exclusively for your Free School Meal (FSM) pupils. Outreach is most effective when sustained and progressive, so for maximum impact, we aim to work with your pupils year on year.

Exploring University Together

Exploring University Together is an event for year 10 pupils and their families to help them find out about higher education.

Year 8 campus visit

Taking place throughout June and July, the year 8 campus visit will give 60 pupils from your FSM cohort an immersive experience at a university.

Raising Attainment with Resilience (RAWR)

Raising Attainment with Resilience programme aims to improve resilience and reduce test anxiety in year 10 pupils from your FSM cohort. Pupils will learn techniques to help maintain their academic performance during times of challenge and pressure.

Literacy Achievement Coaches

Literacy Achievement Coaches scheme place current university students in local schools to work with targeted year 7 pupils to support literacy and reading levels.

Saturday Art Club

Saturday Art Club is a partnership programme between NTU and the National Saturday Club Trust that gives pupils the chance to get involved in creative projects.
