Bomate Sobere - Freelance Photographer and Content Creator
From sport to storytelling: building a creative business behind the lens.
For as long as he can remember, sport – particularly basketball – has been a huge part of Bomate's life.
It has shaped much of his journey, from volunteering in sports marketing and communications with NTU Sport to building his own photography business.
Alongside completing his Marketing degree at NTU, Bomate has developed a growing interest in digital marketing, branding and content creation.
Combining his creativity with his love of sport has allowed him to carve out a space where he can tell stories through visual content and create work that feels uniquely his own.
The inspiration behind BS Shots
Bomate freelances under the name Bomate Sobere Photography, although most people know his work as BS Shots.
Having worked as a photographer for over 18 months, he has built a portfolio spanning professional headshots, fashion projects and sports photography.
His journey into photography started with an interest in media, visual storytelling and sport. Wanting to create content that reflected his own interests and perspective inspired him to pick up a camera and begin experimenting with photography.
What started as a creative outlet soon became something more, leading him to build a business doing work he genuinely enjoys.
Milestones so far
1. Taking the first shot
Although his business is still in its early stages, several key moments have helped shape Bomate's entrepreneurial journey.
2. Landing the first commission
Securing his first paid photoshoot was another significant moment. It was the point where photography started to feel like more than a hobby and became something he could genuinely invest in and grow.
3. Launching a website
More recently, Bomate launched his own photography website. Having a dedicated online space to showcase his work, tell his story and connect with potential clients has been an important step in building his professional presence. It's a platform he plans to continue developing as both his portfolio and business grow.
Support from NTU Enterprise
Throughout his entrepreneurial journey, Bomate has made the most of the support available through NTU Enterprise.
From taking part in NTU Enterprise's Start Up Programme to attending Entrepreneurs Club and booking one-to-one business support sessions, he has used a range of opportunities to help develop his business.
The support helped him gain confidence, develop his business knowledge and take practical steps towards growing his creative practice.
The Enterprise team has played a key role in the development of my business. When it came to building the foundations and understanding what was needed to create tangible results, a lot of that came from my experience and interactions with the team.

Advice for aspiring student founders
I would say there's no better time than right now to start your business...
There are so many advantages to being a student that may not be as accessible once your studies are over. The less you procrastinate and the more action you take now, the more your future self will thank you.
I want to emphasise making the most of the opportunities, support and resources available to you while you're at university - especially from NTU Enterprise. If you have an interest in entrepreneurship, I strongly encourage you to engage with these activities outside of your immediate studies.

What’s next for BS Shots?
As he prepares to graduate, Bomate is focused on continuing to grow both his photography business and personal brand.
After my studies I plan on being as involved in opportunities that allow me to showcase my skills and knowledge of photography and marketing, while spending more time to develop my own personal brand and create awareness of my business.
