Condition Assessment and Health Monitoring of Civil Infrastructures

Civil and Structural Engineering Mx

About this course

On this course, you'll be introduced to current methods of structural condition assessment.

You’ll learn about the advances and developments in sensing technologies, technical aspects of the structural health monitoring and structural identification.

Course dates: Saturday 14 February (online), Friday 13 and  Saturday 14 March (in person), Saturday 25 April (online)

This course addresses the theories which help resolve problems and challenges when assessing and monitoring civil infrastructure.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • demonstrate your knowledge of advances in sensing technologies and data management tools
  • understand the fundamentals of structural identification
  • apply skills in information technology to generate numerical replicas of physical structures
  • engage with algorithmic signal processing approaches and interpret measurements.
  • A CPD certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course.
  • Successful completion can also contribute 15 credits towards a postgraduate award.
  • Accelerate your career

Gain new skills and knowledge that are relevant to the industry today.

  • Part-time learning

Attend one session per week and fit your studies around your busy work schedule.

  • Expert tutors

Learn from those who have bring industry experience, teaching skills and research to their subject.

  • Study for credit or certificate

Gain a certificate that confirms your CPD hours, or build credit towards a qualification in the future.

This course will include:

  • human-structure interactions
  • environmental effects on civil infrastructure
  • sensing systems
  • data management including acquisition, transmission and storage
  • structural identification including generation and evaluation of physics-based and non-physics-based models
  • resilient structures and their design, risk mitigation and implementation
  • smart civil infrastructure.

How you're taught

Teaching and learning will take place using a flexible programme of lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials.

Who will teach you?
