Foundations of Legal Knowledge – Revision Series
About this course
The new route to qualifying as a solicitor now involves a centralised assessment by way of multiple choice questions covering not only a candidate’s knowledge of the law in practice but also their knowledge of the Foundation of Law subjects – subjects that would generally be studied on an undergraduate law degree.
This means that all students now have to retain their knowledge of these Foundation subjects up to four years or more after they originally studied these.
In the meantime, there may have been important changes in the law that the candidate needs to be aware of as they will be examined on the recent law.
Why choose this course?
This is a revision course aimed at:
- those who have studied the Foundation of Legal Knowledge (FLK) subjects several years previously and need to be brought up to date
- those who have studied overseas in common law jurisdictions but who do not have knowledge of the specific law of England and Wales
- those who want a revision course on the FLK subjects as part of their preparation for the SQE 1 centralised examinations.
As this is a revision course it is assumed that anyone taking the course will already have studied the subjects. It is not suitable for anyone who has never studied law before.
There is no award for this course. It is a standalone resource produced by Nottingham Law School to help anyone preparing for the SRA’s SQE 1 multiple choice questions.

Careers and employability
By completing the course, it should help candidates identify those subjects they may need to focus when revising for the SQE 1 centralised assessments. Going forward, only by passing the SQE centralised assessments will allow entry as a solicitor to the legal profession.
