Whether you’re a complete beginner or fight at a professional level, NTU Muay Thai caters to every standard.
It is great for those who want to want to learn self-defence, get fit and meet new friend, but we also offer high-level training and have a number of active fighters - past alumni have included a range of professional and a current WBC Champion.
We’re a friendly, welcoming group that trains hard, supports each other, and always has fun along the way.
As a club with over 100 members of different skills, we offer opportunities throughout the year to take part in decision and non-decision fights. There is never any pressure to fight, and members are more than welcome to train just for fitness. Those who choose to fight can undertake a range of levels from their first non-decision bout right up to pro-class fights - as we have had multiple fighters do. We aim to attend 6 to 9 events across the country in the academic year so there are plenty of opportunities.
Achievements
- 3 gold medals wins at this years national championships.
Represent
Our biggest team competitions for the year are University National Championships (which we hope to host this year) where you will get the opportunity to compete against fighters from Universities from across the country in a one day, multi-fight tournament environment with the chance to take home gold, and our final event of the year being our Varsity Fight Night where 8 fighters from NTU and UoN face-off watched by 100s of students and staff.
Training
We have 3 weekly sessions in the City Sports Hall open to all on Tuesdays (3-5pm), Thursday (3-5pm) and Fridays (4-6pm), which are split into beginner and advanced groups.
We also have dedicated fight team sessions in the City Sports hall on Thursday (8-9pm) and a Ladies Only session in the City Studio (4-5pm). Alongside this we have two team runs a week open to everyone, with the main one being at 10am on Saturdays, meeting outside the Student Union.
We have a variety of equipment including gloves, shin guards, pads, body shields, and skipping ropes for members to use, meaning you do not need to buy your own equipment until you wish too.
How to join
Taster sessions are available to non-members who wish to try out Thai Boxing.
Standard membership for the year is £100, for fight team members it is £120.
Society social membership is £10/term which lets you attend all society socials and access to Ocean tickets.
Play for fun
All sessions are split into beginner and advanced, and they have a very light atmosphere so those wishing to come for a relaxed environment and fitness can attend our normal sessions.
