Role

As BSc (Hons) Product Design, Course Leader, Dr Stewart is responsible for overseeing all levels of study, together with course management, industry collaborations, and pastoral care. He currently leads the Final Year module PROD30001: Design in Practice, which consists of two comprehensive design projects that are key to graduate employment.

Dr Stewart teaches on the following courses:

  • BSc (Hons) Product Design
  • BA (Hons) Product Design

Career overview

Dr Stewart joined NTU in 2014 as a Senior Lecturer. To date, he has served as both BA (Hons) Product Design and BSc (Hons) Product Design Course Leader. Further, Dr Stewart has taught at all levels of these courses, together with the MA and MSc Product Design programmes, respectively.

School positions, such as Success for All Champion and Mental Health Champion, have also added to Dr Stewart’s expertise and responsibilities.

Before coming to NTU, Dr Stewart worked as BSc (Hons) Product Design Programme Leader at the University of East London.

Research areas

Before joining NTU in January 2014, Dr Stewart completed extensive research in the fields of medical product design and atomiser design and development. During this time, he worked in collaboration with many multinational organisations including Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Reckitt Benckiser, and Hughes Safety Showers.

Dr Stewart is currently performing research on the topic of design education, with specific interest in a students’ transition through the various stages of design education and how to make this process as fruitful as possible for the student.
