Joseph Pielichaty

Senior Lecturer

Nottingham School of Art & Design

Role

Joe Pielichaty is a designer and educator teaching on BA (Hons) Graphic Design and BA (Hons) Motion Graphics. He acts as the Year Leader for Level 4 and is co-lead on the studio-based module 'The Fundamentals of Graphic Design'.

Career overview

Since graduating in 2010, Joe has worked as a designer in advertising, and as a freelance designer for various studios, agencies and clients. He set up an independent design practice while studying for his MA in Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art in London and has worked as a commercial designer for clients across the arts and culture, hospitality, and academic sectors.

Joe began teaching at NTU in 2018 and continues to develop and explore his own creative projects in aid of (and extension to) his teaching. His work and processes are purposefully tautological and series-based, and will typically involve recursive acts of making, drawing, collecting and printing. He is also engaged in ongoing practice-led research on the topic of visual (graphical) interludes and the role they play in the delivery of disruptive and enriching graphic design systems, user experiences and narrative storytelling.

Joe has a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is part of the Athena SWAN group within the Nottingham School of Art and Design, which supports gender equality within higher education (HE) and research.
