Richard Brook is a UK-based drummer, session musician, and musical director with over 35 years of professional experience across the popular music, theatre, and orchestral worlds. Highly regarded for his versatility, musicality, and professionalism, he has built a long-standing career performing and recording with major artists, West End productions, and national broadcasters.
As a session drummer, Richard has worked with an extensive range of chart‑topping and globally recognised artists, including Take That, ABC, Rick Astley, Sister Sledge, Go West, Marc Almond, Jimmy Somerville, Holly Johnson, and Tinchy Stryder, contributing to a UK No.1 single. His studio work also includes performing on Annie Lennox’s Grammy‑nominated album, reflecting his experience at the highest levels of commercial music production.
Richard’s career extends into musical theatre, with notable performances in acclaimed West End productions such as Rent and Heathers, alongside regular engagements with large ensembles including the BBC Concert Orchestra. His ability to move seamlessly between pop, theatre, orchestral, and studio environments has made him a first‑call drummer for a wide variety of professional contexts.
As a Musical Director, Richard has led bands, designed and delivered live shows, and managed touring line‑ups for artists including Gary Barlow, Jimmy Somerville, Holly Johnson, and the Cool Britannia Orchestra. His MD work includes booking, organising, arranging, and managing musicians for high-profile performances across the UK and abroad.
Alongside his performing career, Richard has taught at Higher Education and postgraduate level for more than 20 years, combining his extensive industry experience with a commitment to supporting and developing the next generation of musicians.
