Sarah Beardsley is an hourly-paid lecturer who works in the Fashion Marketing Management and Communication department at Nottingham School of Art & Design.

As an Hourly Paid Lecturer (HPL), Sarah's role involves teaching and supporting students in mastering new digital visualisation techniques for the fashion industry. This includes utilising the latest digital fashion software, such as CLO3D, for 3D design, communication and simulation – ensuring our students are well-equipped with industry-ready tools.

Sarah works across the fashion courses delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops and assessments.

Additionally, she creates content for course exhibitions to showcase student work.

Career overview

Sarah began her career in London as a freelance model-maker for product and architectural projects. Recognising the industry’s shift towards digital skills, she joined Nottingham University in 2007, teaching Additive Manufacturing, CAD/CAM, and Rhino3D.

She later moved to Ravensbourne University London, where she supported the Product Design and Fashion Accessories courses. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, she transitioned to teaching Digital Fashion on the BA Fashion Design course, helping to make the university one of the first to present a fully digital fashion collection.

Sarah has collaborated with Hobs3D Academy, Canon3D, and Media Training Ltd, developing and delivering 3D digital design and visualisation courses for both industry and education. She advocates an analogue-to-digital workflow across physical and virtual realities, teaching 3D digital language, asset, and environment creation.

She is committed to preserving traditional techniques while integrating them with digital innovation and has specialist experience supporting students with disabilities, particularly neurodiverse learners.
