Role
Tony Kelly is the Course Leader of MA Filmmaking and specialises in story development, screenwriting, script editing and directing. He has worked in Higher Education for 14 years and also teaches on the BA Filmmaking and BSc Film Technology courses.
Career overview
Tony first started working in the film industry in 2003. His credits include script and film commissions by the BFI and UK Film Council and his work has screened at international festivals and broadcast on European television. He has been selected for a variety of talent development schemes/awards, including feature film script development funding from Creative England, the regional arm of the BFI.
Alongside development of his personal projects, Tony has freelanced as a script editor. Assistant Director and writer for hire – pitching, securing and delivering commissions for a variety of clients, both in the public and commercial sector. More recently, Tony’s long-form projects have been pitched to and read by national and international film and television bodies that include Netflix, Channel 4, BBC and Sky.
Tony’s practice-focused teaching and continued experiences within the film industry provides students with first-hand advice to help develop films that are personal yet relatable.
