Role

Dr. Serah Akelola currently teaches on various accounting and finance courses on the undergraduate and postgraduate programs. She also supervises research students at the DBA and PhD levels. Dr. Serah Akelola is actively involved in research as well as carrying out the pastoral role of an academic mentor to undergraduate and Postgraduate students.

Career overview

Prior to joining NTU Dr. Serah Akelola taught at the Daystar University in Kenya and held the position of the Head of Commerce Department. She has also worked for several years as an accountant at the Ministry of Education in Kenya. Besides all this she has been involved in consultancy and carried out training and research for institutions such as the Kenya Institute of Management, Price Water House and Plan International.

Research areas

Dr. Serah Akelola is research active and has recently published a journal article titled “Prosecuting Bank Fraud in Kenya: Challenges faced by the Banking Sector”, the Journal of Finance and Management in Public Service, Vol. 14 (1): pp. 60-78.

She is currently working on 2 research articles in the area of fraud. Her research interests are in Fraud and Risk Management, Corporate Governance, Financial and Management Accounting.

External activity

Dr. Serah Akelola is also involved in external activities that are linked to her role in the University such as:

  1. She is external marker for the ACCA Professional body
  2. She is an active member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
  3. Being an active member of the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA)
  4. Holding a voluntary position of a Trustee on the Board of a charitable organization, The Word of Life Celebrations Centre.
