Role

Steve is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing and is the Course Leader for BA Business (Integrated Foundation) and as the Undergraduate Resourcing Lead for the Department. In combination with his course leadership and workload management duties, Steve teaches and leads on several module across NBS undergraduate provision.

Career overview

Steve has been working in academia since 2016 and has been with Nottingham Trent University since January 2022.

Nottingham Trent University (2022-Present)

Steve is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Marketing and is the Course Leader for the BA Business (Integrated Foundation) in combination with the Foundation Years for the Economics and Accounting pathways. Further, Steve, in conjunction with the Assistant Head is responsible for staff resourcing and workload management for the Department’s undergraduate provision. Steve currently teaches and leads on several undergraduate modules across Nottingham Business School.

During his tenure, Steve has also previously overseen the department’s quality assurance processes and the co-ordination of Hourly Paid Lecturer (HPL) activity. Steve has also previously led Principles of Marketing; a module consisting of 20 members of staff and over 900 students.

University of Derby (2019-2022)

In 2019, Steve joined the University of Derby’s Business School as a Lecturer in Business Management within the Portfolio of Professional & Executive Education. As part of his role, Steve worked extensively on the BSc Business Management (Online) and the Chartered Degree Managers Apprenticeship (CMDA), coaching clients from organisations JCB, Dreams, E-On, NHS, NFU Mutual, Derbyshire City Council and a range of SMEs across the Derbyshire region.

Further to this, Steve was part of the development team for the online iteration Confederation of Tourism Hospitality (IOH) Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Hospitality Management.

Walsall College (2016-2019)

Steve began his academic career at Walsall College as a Lecturer in Business, Management & Accountancy. During Steve’s time at Walsall College, he held Programme Leadership positions for the BA (Hons) Business Management, Business Management & Accountancy, as well as Higher National Certificate in Business (Blended) and the Chartered Managers Institute (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management.

Further to this, Steve acted as the Business Lead to the Access to HE programmes and served as the Academic Governor on the College’s governing body.

Research areas

Steve is currently undertaking his Doctoral research at the University of Leeds. Steve’s research is focused on problematic pornography use and work-related wellbeing. As part of his research, Steve has presented his work both nationally, and internationally and has been published in the Sexual Health and Compulsivity journal article.

External activity

Steve is an experienced external examiner and academic adviser, as part of this Steve advises on course and assessment development. Specialising in partnership provision, Steve has conducted external examination for the following programmes and institutions:

  • External Examiner – BA Business Management (International Year One) (University of Sussex; 2023-Present)
  • External Examiner - BA Business and Management: Colchester Institute (University of East Anglia; 2019-2023)
