Role
Mathew is the Supervising Solicitor in the NLS Legal specialising in Employment Law. Mathew oversees all issues concerning employment law and supervises students working in the NLS Legal as part of their Trio work. His principle duties include the following:
- To assist the Pro Bono Director in selecting and training students working within the NLS Legal
- To assist the Pro Bono Director in assessing the appropriateness of cases for the NLS Legal
Mathew also takes on his own caseload in addition to providing supervision on matters. Mat leads the Centre’s Employment Law Service and supervises cases on a large range of employment related matters, both contentious and non-contentious work. He also works with a number of employers in drafting their employment handbooks and provides seminar updates for SME’s and charities. Mat is part of the Centre’s operational management team and contributes to the development and training of students who work with us as part of credit-bearing modules.
Career overview
Mathew worked as an Employment Solicitor for several years in private practice and was Head of Employment at a Sheffield firm prior to joining the NLS Legal in 2016.
