Dr Lesley Alborough

Dr Lesley Alborough is the Research Fellow on a multi-disciplinary ESRC funded evaluation of the UK’s National Emergencies Trust’s first activation in response to the COVID-19 Crisis. She has a PhD in Social Policy/ Sociology from the University of Kent, Canterbury and a MSc in Global Development Management from the Open University. Prior to joining NTU Lesley was a Research Associate at in School of Sociology Policy, Sociology & Social Research at the University of Kent.

Lesley’s academic research concentrates on gifting practices within in the voluntary and community sector and in smaller civil society organisations, with a focus on resource mobilisation and the labour and wider societal implications associated with such practices. As well as academic publication, her work has been disseminated widely amongst practitioner audiences across the globe via various online courses and in her teaching.

Prior to commencing her PhD, Lesley had a 15 year career as a fundraiser in South Africa and the UK. During this time, she worked both as sole fundraiser and part of large teams within the criminal justice sector (South Africa and UK), the arts and heritage sector (South Africa and UK), as well as social care and international development (UK).
