Role
As Head of Rugby at NTU, David’s role focuses on the performance of the teams playing in BUCS and transitioning our talented players into professional rugby through our performance pathway. Growing the rugby club culture aligning to the university’s values of Pride, Unity and Respect is the key focus off the pitch.
Career overview
With experience at all levels of the game in both Scotland and New Zealand before joining NTU, David is currently undertaking his 2nd master’s degree, on top of his RFU Level 4 coaching award. As a World Rugby Senior Educator and lifelong learner, David is fascinated by the art of coaching. Having coached England 7s, Auckland 7s, Scotland U18’s and Scottish Universities before joining Nottingham Rugby in 2019, David’s expertise lies in the attack philosophy of the game as well as developing leaders and self-motivated learners as part of his teams.
External activity
David is assistant coach at NTU partner club Nottingham Rugby, who play in the 2nd tier of professional rugby in England. Entering his sixth season in 24/25, his style of rugby produced by the Nottingham team has gained the reputation for fast, attractive, attacking play which has allowed several players to purse their career further into The Premiership and into England colours at all levels.
