Cost of living support

We know that the cost of living crisis is affecting our students too. This is why NTU has invested over £1 million in supporting you to continue to make the most of your student experience.

As well as a host of student benefits already available, here are some of the ways we are helping you to cut costs.

Study essentials

We provide free £20 printing and photocopying credit at the start of each year to help you complete those projects and dissertations.

Self-certification is now available for all forms of assessment extensions – to a maximum of seven days.

Currently in order to request an extension on an assessment deadline due to illness you need to submit a University Medical Note along with your Notification of Extenuating Circumstances (NEC).

There is a cost associated with this, so to further support you with the cost-of-living price increases, we have updated our NEC policy. Any short illness of seven days or less that impacts your ability to submit an assessment can now be self-certified, without needing to visit a doctor and pay for a University Medical Note.

Self-catering stations at each campus

At each campus, students have the opportunity to take advantage of purpose built self-catering stations.

A range of facilities are provided:

  • City Campus (Dryden Centre): hot water, microwave and a water refill station.
  • Clifton campus (Wellbeing room and the Global Lounge): microwave, kettle and a water refill station.
  • Brackenhurst (SU Bar and Brack Farmhouse): microwave, fridge, hot water and a Student Social Space.
  • Mansfield (Teaching and Learning Centre and University Centre): microwave and hot water (TLC01 only) plus water refill points in every building.

Running low on the basics - free food parcels are available

If you, or any NTU student, are struggling for cash or in financial difficulty, please let us help you with the essentials. For those who really need our support we have free food parcels available with a few basics that should help keep you going (oats, lentils, rice, pasta).

Drop in to the Support and Wellbeing Hub at our City, Clifton or Brackenhurst campuses and have a chat to one of our PATHway Advisers who can provide you with a food parcel voucher. You’ll then hand the voucher in to our Security team to get your parcel.

Sport and societies

The keeping fit or joining in with your favourite society is great value for money. You can take part in classes, and use the gym, sports pitches and facilities with an NTU Sport membership. Or meet like-minded people at one of NTSU’s 130 student-led societies.
