Knowledge Exchange Groups (KEGs)

Our Knowledge Exchange Groups (KEGs) engage with the public, private and third sectors and work on the basis that methodological knowledge exchange supports social and economic growth. Through sharing methodological expertise, information, best practice and innovative thinking we can facilitate positive social change.

Closely linked with the work of NTU’s Institute for Knowledge Exchange Practice (IKEP), we support academics to leverage their methodological KE activity - and offer both internal and external audiences a ‘shop window’ onto the methodological KE activity already taking place in the School.

We offer an expert space for academics to consider, develop and collate their methodological KE work and that of their students. Doing so enables internal and external stakeholders’ access to the methodological expertise in data generation and analysis, methods training and stakeholder engagement held with the School.

Our KEGs consist of highly skilled team of expert academics and practitioners, who can provide unique answers to your research problems - and in doing so, support you and your organisation to research, analyse, educate, inform and influence.

Data Visualisation (DatVis) KEG

Synthesising social and policy research data into visual representations combines creativity and technique. The DatVis KEG, brings together experts in data visualisation to support you to communicate your data and analyses in a creative and effective ways. Our academics have a wide range of expertise in visualising tables, time series, maps, text and networks in areas including public policy, safety and health; education and youth work and change management. We can offer you and your organisation solutions to visualising your data with the aim of revealing its stories - and value - in interactive and entertaining ways for a range of audiences. We can help you to do this via techniques including:

  • using programming languages R and Python
  • interactive, real-time representation of Likert scale data via circular bar-plot
  • multi-modal analysis of creative data such as poems, installation art and video
  • analysis of school data such as attendance, punctuality, attainment and progress to inform organisational change
  • phenomenography

Through these approaches, we can help you to visualize your data to boost engagement, build knowledge and unlock effectiveness.
