More about Munashe

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose NTU because it is an award-winning University which had great reviews for its Construction Management Degree. I also decided to choose NTU due to the fantastic reviews I’ve received from friends and family.

What do you think about the course staff? How do they support your learning and university experience?

NTU have a very knowledgeable and experienced team who cover all industries and sectors within construction. With this wealth of experience and knowledge, the support I have received during my studies has been exceptional. I have experienced a range of construction techniques which I am currently using within my industrial placement year.

Could you please explain more about your current / recent placement, and what you did during this time?

I’m on an industrial placement with VolkerFitzpatrick, currently working of the construction of a 238,000 square foot industrial unit for our valued client Prologis. Previous projects I have worked on include Apex Park, another industrial unit, and Panattoni park - a fit-out for the Royal Mail Christmas rush.

How did you source your placement? Did you get support from NTU?

I sourced my placement through the construction open day hosted by NTU, where all contractors from building, all the way to rail/civil engineering attend. NTU supported me with the improvement of my CV to make it eye-catching.

What is your favourite project that you’ve worked on during your placement and why?

Hemel Hempstead, because I have been working on this project from the beginning which has given me exposure to the enabling works (Earthworks) which is a field I really find interesting. Along with this, I will also be exposed to the Groundworks which is another field within construction I have a strong interest in.

What skills have you gained by completing this placement?

I have gained many skills during my placement consisting of communication, which has helped me deal with different situations, cost management and the management of a package.

What advice would you give to an NTU student about to begin a placement?

Enjoy it and make sure you act like a sponge! Absorb all the knowledge and information from your site team, especially those who have been within the industry from an early age.

What’s next for you after NTU?

Firstly, to graduate then hopefully secure a job with VolkerFitzpatrick or another tier one contractor so I can begin to build my experience and knowledge to grow within the industry.
