My favourite thing about my course is how lovely and hardworking all of our tutors are. It’s a really accepting environment, they are understanding to the worries that come with developing as a creative and are so helpful whenever you need them.

More about Eve

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose to move to Nottingham as I had a few friends here and after going out with them all I discovered how brilliant the city Is, it's full of creative events and live music, there is a wonderful network of young people all bringing life to this city. I chose to study Illustration at NTU as I always loved art, yet I never felt I knew the place mine had in the world. It seemed like a really fun course and a welcoming city full of life!

What’s your favourite thing about your course?

My favourite thing about my course is how lovely and hardworking all of our tutors are. It’s a really accepting environment, they are understanding to the worries that come with developing as a creative and are so helpful whenever you need them. They put in so much effort to plan each year, the projects, guest lectures and trips are all so well planned and coincide well together. There is also such a variety of extra-curricular opportunities they provide, so it really feels like you can find your place in the industry.

How have you found the course facilities?

It has been amazing for me to have access to the adobe softwares, I have always been daunted by them but learning about them with the help of the tutors has allowed me to really take my work to the next level. My optional module in experimental animation taught me so much about spontaneous creation and making moving images! This year I have also learnt about making zines and the easy process of getting them printed!

Have you worked on any live briefs or competitions?

This year I have entered competitions, and attempted live briefs that really pushed me out of my comfort zone. At the end of 2nd year we had a choice of so many live briefs set by interesting design agencies and awesome artists! I chose to make an animated music video for Molly Fairhurst and I learnt so much about about planning and presenting!

Has your course included any guest speakers or industry trips?

I have found out about so many cool artists, all of the guest lecturers are different and give such good insight and advice about the industry!

What do you think of the creative and cultural scene in Nottingham?

It is amazing! The art and music scene is so lively and inviting, I have made so many friends from going to gigs and random events. Keep an eye out for posters around town, you will find there are so many random music festivals, arts events, markets and exhibitions to go and get involved in.

Where would you recommend visiting in Nottingham?

Hockley is great colourful area in the city centre with loads of cool shops and cafes, there is a yearly festival called Hockley Hustle which is so much fun. Also check out Sneinton market as there is often lots of arty stuff cracking off there! Walking by the canal is lovely, there are many beautiful parks dotted around. You can basically just get one bus ticket and travel all over the whole city and outer areas, like nice daytrips to Sherwood or West Bridgford for charity shops and good pubs.

If you could give new students some advice, what would it be?

Nottingham is full of so many unique people, just be yourself and explore, you will have so much fun and meet amazing friends.

What do you think of the course staff?

They are awesome, it’s cool to be taught by professional illustrators and see all of their work too! They are so creative with the projects and the ways in which they teach you to think about what you are creating, I have learnt so much from them not only about art but also about life in general.

What’s next for you after NTU?

Entering the creative industry has always daunted me a little bit. I often used to feel an imposter syndrome and like I had no idea how to find jobs as an artist. But this course has taught me about the amazing world of illustration, and how there are so many possibilities and ways to grow and collaborate to create change! I feel prepared to create art that I am proud of, find opportunities send out my portfolio.
