More about Amir
Amir studies MSc Project Management and is currently completing his placement year at FedEx. We caught up with him to see how it's been going.
Can you tell us a bit about your placement?
Currently I am completing a year in industry with FedEx, and the experience of being involved in some of the company's projects has already equipped me with essential skills and abilities I can be proud of. Having an opportunity to use theoretical knowledge in practice and compare how things are in real business is necessary for every young professional. Not only have I increased my confidence in the British work environment after 6 months, I know the company has benefited too. Fresh vision of youngsters and their motivation to develop and learn can only make a positive impact on employer results.
What do you think of the support available at NTU?
During my studies I experienced a constant support from my course staff and the university as a whole. People here strive for success of their students and that what makes NTU so unique: they listen to your feedback, implement changes and constantly improve the environment for students to feel better. The university was always keeping in touch with me about my well-being during placement too. Actually, I am overwhelmed with the amount of care…
What's next for you after NTU?
I recently applied for 3 years post-graduation Employability team support to get in touch with them if needed. I will apply for the 2-year Graduate visa and my plan is to focus on my employment in the Project Management sphere as soon as possible after my graduation. Wish me luck :)
Has the Employability team helped you plan for life beyond NTU?
The Employability team is a great place of contact for students to receive a career advice and professional support, however, your success depends mostly on your inner motivation and attitude. They have a variety of resources to enhance your CV, to tailor a cover letter, to improve LinkedIn account etc. However, at the end of the day it is you who decide how to utilize these valuable resources.
Why did you want to study in the UK?
When choosing the country for my postgraduate studies three years ago, I had several main criteria to focus on: great quality of uni facilities; high professionalism of academic staff; wide employment opportunities and rich cultural background. UK was the obvious choice in these terms and I have never regretted my decision since.
How is NTU for international student?
I respect and appreciate the supportive and collaborative environment NTU has built for international students to feel safe; not isolated and engaged during their studies here in Nottingham. The university has a wide range of opportunities students can utilize to develop not only their professional careers (employability support; mentor help; a huge number of webinars on different topics and volunteering opportunities) but their health and well-being as well (global lounges; societies; sport courses; mental health support and etc). Just use the website properly to find all these brilliant things :)
