More about Bethany

“I’d never been to Nottingham before when I visited the city for the open day. I chose to study in Nottingham because it is a great city, full of students, with lots of things to get involved with even outside of the University. The facilities at Nottingham Trent are also brilliant here and there are so many opportunities within the course!

“Freshers week was a great way to meet new people, I felt at home as soon as I moved to Nottingham. For anyone that doesn't settle in straight away I would encourage them to get involved in some of the many societies that we have at Trent. I am a member of the NTU Boxing Society and previously Nottingham Trent women’s hockey team. I have also joined the Snowsports Society on trips to both Val d'Isère and Val Thorens. I would greatly encourage any prospective student to get involved in everything they can at the University.

“I represented Nottingham Trent Business School at a Summer School in Austria, studying ‘Business in Europe’. This module enhanced my understanding of something outside of my specific subject area. Learning how to communicate in professional and casual settings, with people who spoke a variety of languages was invaluable. I believe this experience has allowed me to prove my skills in a diverse cultural setting, in which I adapted and finished the course as one of the highest achieving students.

“I worked at Freightliner Heavy Haul for my placement year as a Finance Assistant within the UK Finance Function and reported to the Senior Management Accountant. My key responsibilities included; daily cash management and variance analysis, inter-company bank transactions, alongside forecasting and budgeting for cash flows on a monthly and quarterly basis. I created the month-end reporting packs used by the corporate board, frequently created competitor analysis of activities of four largest competitors and industry shifts, and I was responsible for credit control and the processing of invoices for the Heavy Haul business. I also assisted with both External and Internal Audit requests and played a key role in the transition to a new accounting system.

“The skills that I learnt on my placement were greatly transferable; communication, teamwork, organisation, to name just a few. Throughout my time at Nottingham Trent I have been encouraged to constantly develop these skills, which has helped when applying for graduate jobs.

“The Employability team helped me greatly when applying for placements. They helped with putting together and critiquing my CV and the team also did a mock interview with me.

“It’s brilliant to be a student at NTU. I have met so many different people who have made my experience, and have the chance to take so many opportunities. I personally have taken part in a Summer School, been a Course Representative, joined the Accounting and Finance Society and organised the Accounting and Finance socials. I couldn't recommend my course tutors highly enough, every single one of them is always more than happy to help.”
