MSc Economics Student Profile
Nottingham Business School (NBS) has a reputation for excellent teaching and it was important for me to develop my skills and knowledge at NBS.
For my bachelor’s degree, I studied Finance and Accounting in Egypt. Before applying, I enquired and discovered that NBS actively welcomes international students to its student community and that as part of the MSc Economics degree, I knew I would build a strong network of international friends and contacts.
The degree
The key feature that attracted me to the degree was the modules. I wanted a degree that would help me understand the current and emerging economic issues that affect a country and crucially, how to apply economic analysis in order to solve these issues.
In addition, the modules focused on the application of economics to real world situations and importantly, behavioral economics. Two of the modules I particularly enjoyed were Contemporary Issues in Economics and Economic Analysis of Global Issues. These were particularly relevant to me coming from a developing country.
I also wanted a degree and business school that would boost my employability prospects and give me the opportunity to test the theories we learn in a “live” work project.
Consultancy project
Nottingham Business School enables you to personalise your course by choosing a consultancy project in the third semester of the degree.
The opportunity to apply theory to a real-world project is what makes NBS unique. The consultancy project gave me the opportunity to carry out research as well as develop and acquire a number of professional soft skills including teamwork and assessing and responding to a client’s needs.
Facilities
NBS benefits from a fantastic location in the city centre and I knew it would be convenient for me to live, study and socialize because of its accessibility.
The modern Boots Library and its 24 hour access was the key facility that attracted me to Nottingham Trent University. Having this facility close by helped with my research as I could get access to journal articles whenever I wanted to complete my course work.
I found the student support services very informative especially as they are willing to help you with any problems. I used NTU’s student dashboard NOW all the time. It was a great tool that meant I could contact my module leaders if I needed any help, download important documents, view my timetable and access resource lists.
My greatest achievement as an NBS postgraduate student was having the opportunity to present to a client with my fellow team members on the consultancy project. This helped me build my confidence and develop crucial soft skills and experience which will help me in my future career.
