Christian Weaver signing books
NLS Legal was huge. That was the first time I ever sat down with people seeking my legal advice. I think the reality is that the key skill there is explaining the law in a manner that is understandable, and that is the key principle in the Law in 60 Seconds.

More about Christian

On Wednesday 27 April, Nottingham Law School hosted Alumni Fellow, Christian Weaver for a day of events in celebration of his book, The Law in 60 Seconds, a Pocket Guide to Your Rights.

Christian began his undergraduate legal studies in 2012 at Nottingham Law School where he also completed his postgraduate studies, undertaking the Barristers Professional Training Course (BPTC).  Christian achieved the highest Family Law mark on the BPTC and was awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award at graduation. Throughout his studies, Christian took advantage of the very many opportunities available to him, including working as a pro-bono legal adviser at NLS Legal.

Christian is now a successful barrister at Garden Court North Chambers where he has a fast-growing multidisciplinary practice, and he is the founder of legal project, ‘The Law in 60 Seconds’.

The day began with an interview with Victoria Armstrong from Notts TV and a networking event with students on the Barristers Training Course. Christian was then interviewed during an informal ‘audience with’ session, held exclusively for NLS students, where he shared insights on his time at Nottingham Law School and how his journey led to the 'The Law in 60 Seconds’ project.

Following the ‘audience with’ session, Christian hosted a networking event with Nottingham Law School students who are members of the Black Leadership Programme. The day concluded with the official book launch, consisting of a celebratory welcome from Nottingham Law School Executive Dean, Jenny Chapman, an engaging and inspiring presentation by Christian himself followed by a question-and-answer session. Mark George QC, the Head of Chambers at Garden Court North Chambers then shared his thoughts in celebrating Christian’s many successes and announced the winner of a student competition involving Nottingham Law School students recording their own ‘Law in 60 Seconds’ videos. The prize was a mentoring opportunity with Christian, and a much sought-after mini pupillage at Garden Court North Chambers. Congratulations to Aaliyah Kisembo for producing the winning video.

Following the event, a drinks reception and book signing commenced, where attendees were able to purchase their own copy of ‘The Law in 60 Seconds’, signed by Christian himself.
