For me, university has been much more than just studying, it has been about the people I have met, the opportunities I have taken, and the memories I will carry with me for life.
More about Alexandra
Why did you choose NTU and Nottingham Law School?
I chose NTU because of its unique practical focus, particularly the on-campus law firm, NLS Legal, and the pro bono organisation Support Through Court. These opportunities allow students to work on real cases, draft legal documents, and interview clients under the supervision of dedicated and supportive staff.
This level of hands-on experience is rare within undergraduate law courses and has been invaluable in building my confidence, professional awareness, and practical legal skills; qualities that are essential both for the Bar and for a strong CV.
What inspired you to study law?
What inspired me to study law was my love of debates and discussing ideas, especially when I used to debate with my grandad about politics. Those conversations really made me enjoy forming arguments, thinking critically, and seeing different perspectives.
I was also drawn to the way law combines this kind of critical thinking with real-world impact, allowing ideas and arguments to be applied in practical situations that affect people’s lives. Hence, whenever I moot, I naturally think about the wider public policy arguments behind the legal issues.
What do you enjoy about your course?
What I enjoyed most about my course was the accumulation of new knowledge through different practical activities. I especially enjoyed group work where we had to advise clients based on what we had learned, because it allowed us to put theory into practice in a much more engaging and realistic way.
Another key experience was mooting, which becomes a mandatory part of assessment and a way for tutors to assess our practical skills alongside our gained knowledge. It really helped me develop not just my legal understanding, but also my communication skills, ability to think on my feet, and to quickly find solutions under pressure. Overall, it made the learning experience far more practical and engaging.
What marks out of 10 would you give for course facilities and why?
I would give the course facilities a 10/10. The university offers a modern learning environment where all the materials and documents for both lectures and seminars are easily accessible, making studying much more organised and efficient.
The library resources are also excellent and provide students with access to everything they need to support their learning and research. Overall, the facilities are very student-focused and create a supportive environment to grow both academically and professionally.
How would you promote NTU to potential students in 10 words or fewer?
NTU promotes practical legal experience, preparing students for successful legal careers.
What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?
Vibrant, diverse, lively.
Where would you recommend visiting in Nottingham?
Wollaton Park is such an amazing, peaceful escape from the chaos of day-to-day city life. Walking or running alongside the lake, surrounded by greenery and wildlife, always feels so calming and refreshing.
If you have a (non-academic) problem. Who would you talk to? What would you do?
If I ever had a non-academic problem, the first people I would speak to would be my parents. They have always been my biggest source of support and guidance, and they help me stay grounded during difficult moments.
I would probably take some time to reflect, talk things through with the people I trust, and then try to approach the situation calmly and positively instead of dealing with everything alone.
What do you think Nottingham Law School has given you above and beyond a qualification?
Nottingham Law School has given me so much more than just a qualification. It has given me confidence, resilience, and the ability to believe in myself even in challenging situations.
Through the opportunities, competitions, and people I have met along the way, I have grown both personally and professionally. It has truly helped shape the person I am becoming, not just the career I want to pursue.
Finally, is there anything else you’d like to share?
One piece of advice I would give is to choose your university carefully, because it can shape the beginning of your career and the city where your future journey starts.
For me, university has been much more than just studying, it has been about the people I have met, the opportunities I have taken, and the memories I will carry with me for life.
