More about Yanna

What made you choose to study at NTU?

There were several reasons that led me to choose NTU. I was particularly impressed by the diverse opportunities and specialization options offered across their courses, as well as the wide range of extra-curricular activities, clubs, and sports available, which align perfectly with my interests and ambitions. Additionally, NTU’s employability support stood out to me, as it ensures a strong foundation for my career journey beyond university. Another key factor was Nottingham itself, which is consistently ranked as one of the top student cities in the UK, offering a welcoming environment for both academic and personal life.

What has been the highlight of your course so far?

One of my most memorable projects was the NMU-NTU COIL Initiative (2024-2025), where I collaborated with students from New Mansoura University to address global health challenges. Our team explored the intersection of Sustainable Development Goals and treatment strategies for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), analysing how equitable healthcare aligns with global sustainability targets.

Do you do any voluntary work alongside your studying?

During my first year, I served as a Student Health Champion at NTU, promoting on-campus wellbeing initiatives and raising awareness for national mental health campaigns. Additionally, I held leadership roles in the Archery Club—first as Treasurer (2024-25) and now as Team Captain for the upcoming academic year. These experiences have strengthened my organizational and teamwork skills while allowing me to contribute actively to student life.

What are your future plans after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to pursue a career in research, utilizing the hands-on laboratory skills I’ve honed during my degree. I aim to contribute to impactful research by merging technical expertise with a passion for discovery. To refine my interests and gain deeper practical experience, I’m considering a Master’s in Research, which will help me focus on a specific area and advance my professional growth.

How have you found studying at NTU?

Studying at NTU has been an incredibly rewarding experience, equipping me with both technical and transferable skills essential for my future career. One unique opportunity was completing the Home Office License for Animal Research in my second year—a qualification that sets NTU graduates apart in fields like biomedical science, veterinary research, and pharmaceuticals.

What advice would you give to others?

Advice I would give to others is to embrace the opportunities NTU has to offer—whether through collaborative projects, academic societies, or sports clubs. These are not just great ways to develop new skills and broaden your experience, but it also provides the perfect environment to meet like-minded people and build lasting friendships. Stepping out of your comfort zone and getting involved can truly enrich your university journey, both personally and professionally.
