NTU Journalism student and alumni nominated in NCTJ Awards for Excellence 2024 shortlist

The National Council for the Training of Journalists holds the Awards for Excellence annually, which aim to highlight the achievements of promising student, apprentice, and trainee journalists. The awards cover 20 categories including sports journalism, student project of the year, and podcast of the year amongst many more.

George and Shing Hei (Reagan) were shortlisted from over 400 entries. The nomination also adds to Shing Hei (Reagan) Yip's impressive award-winning history whilst at NTU where he picked up the prize for Best Student Photographer at the Student Publication Association National Awards 2023.

Speaking on George's nomination, BA Journalism course leader, Michael Greenwell commented:

“George has shown a determination and dedication to becoming a highly skilled journalist during his excellent progress throughout his BA Journalism course. He has taken numerous opportunities to develop his practice, both as Editor of Platform student magazine and working on crucial stories and investigative journalism in various ways in the city of Nottingham.”

“George’s entry is just one example of his outstanding practice from an impressive portfolio of work that continues to develop.”

"George's award entries have covered a range of issues and are also very engaging. They cover politics, health, as well as displaying his engagement with appealing human interest stories. The work is well-researched, secures key interviews and informs his audience very comprehensively, in challenging areas for student journalists."

The awards are set to take place on Friday 4 April 2025.
